Business Consulting FAQ

Answers to the questions prospective clients ask most often before starting an engagement with us.

General questions

We quote fixed fees for every project. A revenue growth strategy engagement typically costs between £8,000 and £18,000, depending on the size of your sales team and the complexity of your market. Cost and operations reviews start at around £6,500. Organisational restructuring projects range from £12,000 to £28,000.

The exact figure depends on your company's turnover, the number of locations involved and the depth of analysis required. We will give you a written quote after the discovery call, and that number will not change unless you ask us to expand the scope.

Most engagements run between four and twelve weeks. A due diligence review can be completed in four weeks if we get timely access to the data room. Revenue strategy work takes about eight weeks. Restructuring programmes need twelve weeks because they include a managed transition period where we coach your managers through the changes.

Interim management placements are different: they run for three to six months, sometimes longer if the client needs it.

Our services are designed for businesses with annual turnover between roughly £2m and £50m. Below that threshold, the fixed fees we charge may not represent good value relative to the potential savings or revenue gains. If your business is smaller, we are happy to recommend alternative advisors who specialise in early-stage companies.

Most of our experience is in manufacturing, distribution, construction and professional services. Those four sectors account for about 80% of our completed projects. We have also worked with food producers, veterinary groups and a chain of automotive workshops. If your industry is outside that list, we will tell you honestly during the discovery call whether we can add value or whether you would be better served by a specialist.

Yes, for most of the engagement. During the diagnostic phase your lead consultant will spend two or three days a week at your premises, interviewing staff, observing processes and reviewing documents. The analysis and report-writing happen at our office, but the fortnightly review meetings are held at yours. We find that being physically present matters: people share information more freely in person than over video calls.

Every engagement includes four follow-up sessions spread over the three months after we deliver the final report. These sessions are video calls of about 45 minutes each, where we review progress against the action plan, help you troubleshoot any implementation problems and adjust recommendations if your circumstances have changed. There is no extra charge for these sessions; they are built into the project fee.

If you want ongoing support beyond those three months, we offer a retained advisory service billed monthly. About a third of our clients choose that option.

Yes. Our standard engagement letter includes a break clause. If you decide to stop the project at any point, you pay only for the work completed up to that date, calculated as a proportion of the fixed fee based on milestones delivered. We keep a detailed milestone log so there is never a dispute about how far the work has progressed.

Every engagement begins with a mutual non-disclosure agreement. Your data is stored on encrypted drives and shared only with the consultant and analyst assigned to your project. We do not use client data for marketing, case studies or benchmarking without written permission. When the project ends, we archive your files securely and delete working copies within 60 days unless you ask us to retain them.

Our office is in North Bahringer, Wales, and most of our clients are based in Wales or the West of England. We do take on projects further afield when the fit is right. Travel and accommodation costs for engagements outside a 90-minute drive of our office are quoted separately and agreed before the project starts.

Three things. First, the person who sells the project is the same person who does the work. You will not meet a partner during the pitch and then be handed off to a junior analyst. Second, our consultants have all held operational roles in industry, so they understand the gap between a recommendation on paper and the reality of implementing it with a team that has other things to do. Third, we charge fixed fees. You know the cost before you commit, and it will not creep upward because we decided to run extra analysis.

About the process

These questions come up during the discovery call or in the first week of an engagement.

It depends on the service. For a cost review we need your management accounts for the last two full financial years, a list of your top 20 suppliers by spend and access to your payroll summary. For revenue work we need CRM data exports, your current pricing schedule and any sales reports you produce internally. We send a detailed checklist after the scoping proposal is signed.

During the diagnostic phase, we will need about one hour per person for interviews with key managers. Your main point of contact (usually the MD or FD) will spend roughly two hours per week reviewing progress with our lead consultant. Beyond that, we try to minimise disruption. We schedule interviews around your team's availability and avoid peak operational periods whenever possible.
